Sanne - early January 2009
Early in 2009, a friend family was victim of a tragedy that hit them hard. I have, in consultation with the family created this blog, to tell the story of Sanne. In connection with this, I have also raised a fund in hopes , so that Sanne gets the help she needs!

SANNE
I will here tell Sannes tragic story, and I will show that there is hope for the future of Sanne, and the plan for the long way back.
In the evening January 13th this year a girlfriend of Sanne received a very disturbing sms from her, which clearly expressed that Sanne would no longer be a part of this world. Shortly after she was found lifeless, by a random by-passer that incredible enough managed to keep her alive until the ambulance came. Then she was flown to Ullevål hospital in an air ambulance. Sanne was in a coma in intensive care for 2 weeks before she was gradually brought back to life. Unfortunately it turned out that Sanne had received a brain injury as a result, which resulted in she neither can speak nor move.
Sanne was in February moved to SunnaasHospital for further rehabilitation, but realized quickly that the level of ambition here was miles away from the parent’s goal. With the methods that were used, they found out that Sanne would have little hope of getting back to some meaningful life there.
They learned through other parents, who have been in similar situation, of a center in the U.S. (FamilyHopeCenter - FHC), who had had significantly greater success rate in the rehabilitation of children With brain injury than was the case in Norway. They went there on a 3-day seminar in March and learned a lot about training methods, which would be involved in providing Sanne back to the life she deserves. Due to the move to FredrikstadHospital, and a couple of serious set backs they were not able to implement a proper training before she came home around May 1.
Today, Sanne is at home, in full training from morning to late evening.
They see small signs of progress, which confirms that they must be doing something right, despite the great opposition in large parts of the health care in Norway. Sanne has already spent several hours on horse-back, too, as part of training!
The family has so far paid most of the costs of training of their own pocket, which is a very severe drain on their economy. Due to lack of funds, they have not managed to implement the program fully. However, they have applied for Norwegian health authorties for the full coverage of the FHC program, but as usual, this can take a long time, and we do not know to what level they will get covered by the Norwegian state.
They want, among other things, to use pressure-chambers with oxygen supply, so-called HBOT, as part of the process. These are expensive and there are few such available in Norway. They borrowed one for a period, but had to return it. They saw positive results, in the time Sanne received this treatment.
Despite all the support and welfare, it is expensive to be on long term sick leave in Norway today. This is shown both in reduced revenues and increased expenses, to a surprising number of things that are necessary in the daily treatment, care and training of Sanne that the public benefits does not cover!
They will in spite of this continue the training under the direction of the FHC, and aims to have Sanne back on her feet and speaking within 2 years!
As Sanne got a second chance, they will do their outmost for Sanne, and give her back the life that she sincerely deserves.
Sanne is born december 6th1994. The first 2 years they lived in Oslo, but moved in 1996 to Mysen. They believed adolescence conditions in a smaller community would be far better than in a metropolis like Oslo. Sanne was a real charmer, playful and sweet as most 2 year olds. But she often felt unsafe. This became clear the day she first was placed at day care. She could cry almost unstopping from arrival and until someone came and picked her up to day care mammy’s major frustration. After a while they moved to Mysen in 1996, she was soon to know the kids in the neighbourhood, and apparently played as most children do. But it was clear as she became older; she often was tormented by other children nearby, either by being frozen out or by e.g. being locked inside the doll rooms.
SANNE – TRAVEL AND HOLYDAY MEMORIES
This trend continued even after Sanne tended school. Sanne had, admittedly, a few friends, but was unfortunately in some cases given lower priority than others.
Sanne had many nice experiences too.. Each summer the family went to their summer house in Mandal where they have many fine memories.
Late summer 2000 they travelled to MummiLand in Finland. In may 2001, the family went to Spain and visited grandpa and grandma, who lived there in winter. Then they experienced a Sanne that was happy and glow like the sun. From 2002 they had several trips to HoustonTexas in connection with her Dad working there for periods of time.
As eight-year-old girl Sanne started horseback riding. This was an interest that grew big and strong. She came into an environment where she is happiest, and got gradually many horse friends. As a 10 year old she got her first pony Jasmin, and participated in her first show jump competition in Askim. The following year she got her present pony Lucky One, which she won numerous prices with. Sanne was even with her mammy to Denmark, and obtained both her ponies as they were purchased. Many still remember the "Sanne bend", where she almost turned the horse in the air on a re-jump-no one has done this after her, and Sanne won! :) :)
Horse riding is not entirely harmless something Sanne experienced. She had 2 pretty serious falls that ended in hospital with concussion. But luckily she recovered both times.
Sanne showed an early love of her pony, and was very responsible in terms of care and training!
As Sanne slipped into the teens, she showed an increasing degree of mood swings. She could be one moment be very happy , for so soon after be upset. She was also reserved for periods. She developed friendships to a few close friends, but was quickly pushed out when it was too many (the famous fifth wheel on the wagon).
The episode the family remembers best was the day Sanne made herself ready to go for a birthday party. She had dressed up and looked forward for a long time. Shortly before she left, she was notified that she could not come anyway. The justification was that then some other "friends" would not appear. Sanne cried the rest of the day.
In autumn and winter 08/09 the family experienced that Sanne spent more time in her room. She sat "chatting" with a lot of others, but did little after school.
Evening 13 January 2009 their lives were turned upside down! - and experienced what bullying can lead to!
Now, you who read this think that this is not uncommon that children / youth bully bug or otherwise are ugly toward each other. It is correct, even if we never accept such behaviour. The main problem with this type of behaviour is that in many cases it can develop into quite a nasty bullying in many forms. We know especially that girls bullying is more psychological and is often just as harmful as physical bullying.
Most will survive more or less amounts of "bullying", and have a relatively normal life later. But for some, as a sensitive girl like Sanne, this may have been the drop that made it run over – were it ended so terribly wrong!
